Private Training Session

About this session

Learn freediving at your own pace.

Private sessions can often be scheduled around your morning availability.

Private sessions are tailored to you. Complete beginners can learn the fundamentals, while certified divers can refresh skills, improve equalization, or work on depth and technique.

Freediving is about relaxation and trust, so we work at whatever pace is comfortable and spend the time on whatever will actually help you. Depth training is the most common request, but if there is another type of breath-hold training you would rather work on, just tell me when you book.

Sessions are held near Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon in Waikiki. Start times are arranged with you rather than fixed — mornings are usually best for conditions. The exact meeting spot is sent in your confirmation email when you book. The session costs $300 and includes fins, mask, snorkel and a weight belt; a wetsuit is not provided and is highly recommended.

Who this is for

Private sessions are open to everyone, including complete beginners. Session content is built around your training and demonstrated ability, so what we do in the water depends on where you are starting from.

  • Complete beginners — a relaxed introduction to breath-hold and in-water technique, with no certification required.
  • Current students — extra one-on-one practice if you need more time with a skill before meeting a course requirement.
  • Visiting and returning divers — certified freedivers who want to train in Hawaii, refresh after time out of the water, or work on depth.

What to bring

A wetsuit is highly recommended. If you need to rent one, arrange it before the morning of your booking. The equipment provided is listed on your booking page.

  • Wetsuit
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • Water
  • Towel or yoga mat
  • Change of clothes
  • Notepad
  • Slippers or sandals

Prerequisites

  • Be 18 years of age or older (16 or 17 years old with parent or guardian consent)
  • Comfortable in the water. Open-water experience is not required for a beginner session — tell me where you are starting from and we will plan around it
  • Be able to speak and read English

I had the best time in Mitch's class! I was able to get past my struggles with equalisation through his guidance and instruction. Couldn't recommend him more!

I took the AIDA 1, 2 and 3 courses with Mitch in the span of two weekends. I have been freediving my whole life and his courses were impeccable. His calmness and ability to teach is incredible, he is patient and willing to work with you as much as you need to reach your goals. I learned so much from his courses and was able to very comfortably push myself knowing that he was always watching me carefully with my safety at his forefront. I spent about three months researching courses with different instructors and schools and if I had to do it again a million times I would choose Mitch every time. If you go into his course with the willingness to learn you will achieve incredible things with Mitch. I plan to take my AIDA 4 and instructor course with him as well and I am very very excited to do so this summer!!
